WHAT
IS THE PROPOSED WORK TO THE WAR MEMORIAL?
A.
To clean by water spray and fine brush with the addition of
approved chemical stone cleaner for heavily soiled areas.
B.
To rake out open beds/joints and re- point with Lime Mortar
C.
To make good areas of erosion with Stone Dust/Lime/Cement
Mortar
D.
To repaint 1,400 No. letters which have faded in time
E.
To re-cut approx 100 No. letters which have faded in time
The
proposed work will be carried out by an approved stonemason.
At
least three quotations for the work will be sourced before
work will be allocated and approved.
HOW
MUCH WILL THE WORK COST?
At
present it is estimated that the project will have to find
somewhere in the region of £2200. Hopefully, 50% will
be sourced from the War Memorials Trust & English Heritage
in the form of grants. However, competition for the award
of grants is tough and there is a very limited amount of money
available. So, the bottom line is that we must be prepared
to raise the whole amount ourselves and anything else would
be a bonus.
It
would also be excellent if we could raise more than the minimum
figure in order that future maintenance tasks could be completed.
